What a Week It's Been!

by Heather Walker-White on 2019-05-10T17:40:00-04:00 | Comments

The week leading up to Commencement brings a lot of activity to both our Manchester campus, as well as for everyone involved with operations at Global Campus.

In addition to the usual preparations to celebrate all of our graduates this weekend, we mark the end of the academic year with Closure on campus, while our Global Campus colleagues come together to celebrate their annual Academic Meeting. This is a time for faculty and staff to learn from each other about what's been going on over the past year and think about ways we can work together to improve the SNHU student experience in the coming year.

Your Shapiro Library personnel has been very busy this week presenting at both Closure and Academic Meeting about some very exciting initiatives that we've been engaged in this year!  Here's what some of us have been up to this week...

  • Jennifer Harris, Heather Walker-White, Elaina Fisher, and Anaya Jones presented alongside Liz Graham and Beth Morgan from the Online Writing Center in both a panel and poster presentation on the collaboration between the Shapiro Library and the Online Writing Center's integrated chat service to better support learners in real time with their writing needs.
  • Brian Ryckman presented with math professor Dr. Adam Gilbert about Open Education Resources in Library resources can help improve course content and bring down the cost to students.
  • Trisha Prevett and Anaya Jones presented on the efforts that the Library has taken to ensure access to online resources as well as inform the GC community about how the Library curates its electronic collections.
  • Chris Cooper and Brian Ryckman presented on how the Library can help support faculty as they pursue publishing goals within their disciplines.
  • Heather Blicher presented alongside Global Campus colleagues Allie Davis and Cory Gagnon about Open Education Resources and the progress that SNHU has made in the past year in working toward OER.
  • Sandy Srivastava and representatives from one of our vendors, SAGE, presented on SAGE Stats, one of our newer statistical databases, about how SAGE Stats can make statistical research less daunting and user friendly.
  • Chris Cooper presented about his sabbatical research work on exhibit creation using Omeka, and how he curated an exhibit featuring SNHU historical resources from 1932-1965.
  • Josh Becker presented a poster session on how he used a grant from Summer 2018 to develop a 1 credit Information Literacy course that could be implemented into online learning resources.
  • Anaya Jones and Chris Cooper presented on the wide variety of Library resources and how their application is broader than academics...we have fun stuff, too!

Phew! It's been a busy week (and that's only a glimpse at what we've been up to!).  We hope this peek into how the Shapiro Library can support you encourages you to reach out and utilize our resources to enhance your SNHU experience.

For those of you graduating this weekend, congratulations!  We wish you the very best in the next steps along your journey.

To all of our users - students, faculty, and staff - we're here to help!
