A selected list of databases and online resources can be found below to help guide you in your search for evidence-based material and peer-reviewed articles. In addition, you will find several resources for gathering current health data. These databases can be a valuable resource as you move forward in the MSN-FNP program.

Health Data Resources

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
AHRQ is the lead federal agency charged with improving the safety and quality of healthcare for all Americans. AHRQ develops the knowledge, tools, and data needed to improve the healthcare system and help consumers, healthcare professionals, and policymakers make informed health decisions

Dartmouth Atlas of Healthcare
Based at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, the Dartmouth Atlas Project documents glaring variations in how medical resources are distributed and used in the United States.

PeriStats
PeriStats is the online source for perinatal statistics developed by the March of Dimes Perinatal Data Center and provides free access to maternal and infant health-related data at the US, state, county, and city level. 

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
SAMHSA's Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality (CBHSQ) is the lead federal government agency for behavioral health data and research. CBHSQ maintains several data collection systems and surveys on key topics in U.S. behavioral health.

Youth Behavioral Risk Surveillance System (YBRSS)
The YRBSS monitors health-related behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults as well as prevalence of obesity and asthma.


 

Reference Resources

These resources provide you the key concepts related to a variety of health topics and can include clinical aspects, treatment, control and prevention, related primary literature, and additional reading. Some examples of the information contained in each database include, Infectious diseases and epidemiology, virology, nutrition, and many other health-related topics.
