Course Reserves
Reserve materials are kept at the information desk and may be used in the library and may be checked out upon presentation of a valid SNHU ID. Faculty members wanting to place course material on reserve should review the Shapiro Library Course Reserve Policies below and complete a Reserve Request Form.
In order to place items on reserve, faculty members need to complete and submit a Reserve Request Form. Incomplete forms will delay processing. Forms will be processed in the order that they are received on a first-come, first-served basis and should be submitted at least two weeks before students will need access to the material.
In order to expedite your request, faculty members should bring all items to be placed on reserve to the Information Desk soon after completing the Reserve Request Form. If you would like to request that the library purchase a book needed for reserve, please contact your school’s library liaison (faculty & staff access only) This link opens in a new window. Please note that it can take between four and eight weeks to complete book orders, so please plan accordingly.
Reserve staff are available to process requests Monday - Friday, 8am - noon EST. Materials will not be processed on weekends or weeknights.
Materials will be taken off reserve at the end of the semester unless an earlier date is specified by the instructor.
What May be Placed on Reserve:
- Circulating books and DVDs owned by the Library
- Books owned by the faculty member or department, including textbooks
What May Not be Placed on Course Reserve:
- Reference books
- Material borrowed through Interlibrary Loan
- Photocopies of individual articles or book chapters. Please use Brightspace to make documents accessible to students while respecting fair use as defined in United States Code Section 17 U.S. Code § 107. If Shapiro Library owns a book that contains a chapter you’d like to place on reserve, library staff will place the book on reserve.
Professor Copies
Faculty are encouraged to lend personal copies of required course texts to the library for reserve use. These items will have brief records added to the library catalog and will have minimal physical processing, including the addition of a library bar code. These books will be returned to faculty members at the end of the semester, unless otherwise specified. The library cannot take responsibility for damage occurring to these books in the normal course of their use.
Course Packs/Readers
Reserve readings may not contain material collated from more than one copyrighted source without the written permission of each copyright holder.
Loan Periods
Faculty may specify any of the following loan periods for reserve material:
- 2 hours (in-library use only)
- 4 hours
- 24 hours
Reserves must be returned before closing on the date due. Holds may not be placed on reserve material.
Fines
Students are charged fines for late reserves at the rate of $1.00 per hour and $10.00 per day. Additional fees and book replacement costs may also apply.
