OpenAthens and Shapiro Library

A guide on how to athenize library links for off-campus access.

EBSCO Link Updates

The Shapiro Library will be updating all EBSCO products to the new EBSCO user interface on December 23, 2024. The new EBSCO UI uses a different link structure than the current UI. EBSCO links in the old format will redirect to the new user interface. EBSCO has no plans to eliminate those redirects and has indicated that significant prior notice will be provided if eliminating the redirects is added to their roadmap. None the less, it will be best practice to update all EBSCO links to the new format to reduce potential issues associated with redirecting links and ensure long term link stability.

How to tell what needs to be updated

Old format EBSCO links are identifiable by the inclusion of ebscohost in the URL.

When to make updates

After December 23, 2024, all links to materials found through EBSCO resources including EDS/ the Multi-Search will have updated URLS. This will include all material found through EBSCO databases such as Academic Search Ultimate, CINAHL Complete, and Business Source Ultimate. After December 23, old EBSCO links will continue to function through re-directs to links in the new format. While there is no expiration date for old EBSCO links, the library recommends updating to the new format as a best practice as soon as possible after December 23.

How to make updates

To find the updated EBSCO, click the existing old format EBSCO link. This will redirect you to the same content in the new UI.

Then copy the URL from the URL bar in your browser and use it to replace the existing URL in course materials.
