Searching for a Job or Internship

When you are ready to begin your job search, there are a couple of questions you'll want to ask yourself:

  • Am I willing to relocate for a job (e.g.local, national, or international)?
  • Am I looking for entry-level jobs or jobs at a more advanced level?
  • Am I interested in working for a particular company or organization?

Your answers to these questions will help guide you when searching for a job. For example, if you are want to work for a non-profit company, you'll need to be more selective in your job search and possibly search in specialized areas.

Another good option is to search industry-specific job boards and check out jobs posted by professional organizations in your field. You can also try networking or using social media to find jobs that are available.

Internships and volunteering have a multitude of benefits for college students. They provide the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world situations, gain valuable work experience, get your foot in the door at a company and network, determine if the career you're interning or volunteering for is right for you, obtain references, and more.
