Search Open Audio/Music
You should always verify that the work is actually under a CC license when conducting a search on any website. If you are in doubt you should contact the copyright holder directly, or try to contact the site where you found the content.
- Free Music Archive This link opens in a new windowThe FMA is a collection of high-quality, legal audio material. All material on the site contains a Creative Commons license so is available to use for free.
- Audio Archive This link opens in a new windowThis library contains recordings ranging from alternative news programming, to Grateful Dead concerts, to Old Time Radio and most are downloadable, but all materials on the site are free to use/share.
- Bandcamp This link opens in a new windowMusic is uploaded to Bandcamp with a Creative Commons license.
- The Public Domain Project This link opens in a new windowThousands of audio, image, and video files in the public domain from the collection of the Pond5 stock footage company.
- World Hip hop Beats This link opens in a new windowA collection of Creative Commons licensed hip hop beats.
- SoundCloud This link opens in a new windowA social sound platform for creating and sharing music and sounds. Many SoundCloud songs and sounds are licensed with Creative Commons. To search for items that allow reuse, after a search, filter the search results by "To share", "To modify", etc.
- Citizen DJ from the Library of Congress This link opens in a new windowExplore public domain sound recordings from the LOC and remix them using the interactive tool. Results can be downloaded as a .wav file
- Music Library Association Publications at Internet ArchiveA collection of all backlist titles owned by the Music Library Association, including books on cataloging music and music recordings, career information, and care of materials (AV, sheet music, etc.)
