Sample readings and search tips
Another challenge you will have to address is monitoring the water level in the catchment to alert the population of low water levels allowing for rationing of resources before the school runs out of water unexpectedly. As you explore this topic you may need to veer away from water tracking to tracking different chemicals or other substances that would warrant and alert to unacceptable levels. You may be able to use the concepts of that technology and relate them to your problem and then solution.
As you search try to think about various words that you might use to explore a topic. Some sample key words you might try are:
- Water monitoring
- Water conservation
- Rainfall
- Water metering
- Measurement
- Basin OR Catchment OR Tank etc.
Below are some sample research articles:
- Design of Monitoring System for Rural Drinking Water Source Based on WSNIn order to solve the existing traditional rural drinking water monitoring in a lot of manpower, material resources, real-time, this paper introduces a WSN based on the rural drinking water source monitoring system design, the system consists of five parts: water quality monitoring, soil monitoring node node, node, routing node and gateway server. Water quality monitoring node, soil monitoring nodes send the collected data to the gateway node through the wireless module sent directly, or through the routing gateway node to the gateway node, each node of the data collection, unified by the GPRS module to upload server.
- Design of automatic controlling system for tap-water using floatless level sensorWater is an essential resource in the world and currently household drinking water is an important asset to save the life due to shortage of water in the earth. This paper describes the design and development process of an automatic control system for tap water using floatless water level sensor which can save wastage of water without the presence of any operator physically. This sensing system utilizes a combination of a solenoid valve, electromagnetic relay (a type of electrical switch), floatless level controller (61F) and electrodes (used to sense the watery level electrically). The developed system can automatically control the water tap accordingly when level sensor can sense the lower level of water tank. Also, the system has ability to activate the relay which starts solenoid valve. The entire process can continue until sense the upper level of water. After that the system deactivates the relay as well as the solenoid which can stop the water flow through tap. Read the entire abstract by clicking on the link.
- A Low-Cost Smart Sensor Network for Catchment MonitoringUnderstanding hydrological processes in large, open areas, such as catchments, and further modelling these processes are still open research questions. The system proposed in this work provides an automatic end-to-end pipeline from data collection to information extraction that can potentially assist hydrologists to better understand the hydrological processes using a data-driven approach. In this work, the performance of a low-cost off-the-shelf self contained sensor unit, which was originally designed and used to monitor liquid levels, such as AdBlue, fuel, lubricants etc., in a sealed tank environment, is first examined.
- Non-contact Water Level Monitoring System Implemented Using LabVIEW and ArduinoThis paper shows non-contact water level monitoring system implemented using LabVIEW and arduino. Water depth of the tank is measured by Ultrasonic sensor. Hence the water level present in the tank is known. Depending on the sensor reading LabVIEW program sends the data to arduino and through arduino board the pump is switched ON if the water level in the upper tank is low and pump is switched OFF if the water level is completely filled in the upper tank. The input to arduino board is from ultrasonic sensor. Arduino read the height and reports the water depth of the tank and the same is displayed in LabVIEW front panel. Advantage of this over other existing automatic system is it provides non-contact water level measurement using ultrasonic sensor, but existing automatic system using ss(stainless steel) sensor which is a contact type water level sensor and also these sensors quickly corroded by some chemicals.
